John Arvin is the Research Coordinator at Gulf Coast Bird Observatory in Lake Jackson. Gulf Coast Bird Observatory is an independent non-profit organization with 501(c) status. We have become recognized as an innovative organization, which has designed and conducted a significant number of large conservation projects, including migration studies, habitat enhancement, land acquisition, regional habitat mapping, and others. Our Mission: To protect birds and their habitats around the Gulf of Mexico.[1]

I have studied the birds of southern Texas, especially their migration systems, for 40 years. Additionally I have traveled widely throughout Middle and South America in ecotourism and research work including a residency of 8 six-month seasons as resident naturalist in Manu National Park in Peru. Presently I am research coordinator for the Gulf Coast Bird Observatory, a research, education and conservation organization dedicated to the understanding and conservation of birds and their habitats in the region of the Gulf of Mexico.[2]
