Thomas Adams USFWS Botanist, has set a date of February 14th 8:00 am at the Mid-Coast Hdqtrs to do the rescue of some 200 Little Bluestem plants. The plants will be removed from a tract near the headquarters and transported to Eagle Nest Lake just north of Columbia Lakes.
Below is the worksheet of how the day will be broken down, things needed and some general information.
Thomas said most roads are good but if we have an issue we can carpool to the sites. The morning will be for digging/rescue, then lunch and travel to Eagle Nest Lake and the afternoon will be transplanting. There are still some unknowns such as getting the holes for the transplant predug with an auger attached to a bobcat (which would be way cool).
Part of the time at the start of both sessions (morning and afternoon) will be Advanced Training (exact amount to be determined) as we will be learning about why we are doing this and other pertinent information. The remainder of the time will be VT and travel time. How long we will be there will depend a lot on how many volunteers we get to help. If you can only make the morning or afternoon that is fine. All help will be much appreciated.
Come on out if you can and enjoy and learn. Bring your lunch, water, shovel, and dress for field work. I would like to give Thomas an estimate of how many are available to help.  Please let me know if you will attend by email message to
