Brazos River Bottomlands Tour at Kittie Nash Groce Ranch

Kittie Nash Groce Ranch
Brazos River Bottomlands Tour
Saturday May 3, 2014, 9:00AM
KNG Ranch Barn on County Road 25.

Susan and I would like to invite you (and anybody else who you think might be interested) for a tour of the KNG Ranch's bottomlands.  Conservationist, birders, sightseers -- even the curious are all invited. No pets please.

This is a privately-owned working ranch.  There are no bathroom facilities or trails (except cow trails).  Bring plenty of water, and a walking stick can be handy for spider webs etc.  Wear long pants and closed toe boots or shoes. Consider bringing a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a snack.  And did I mention water?  Bring water!

If the road conditions permit we will carpool as far back into the bottomlands as we can get.  If not we will walk.

We are not experts on the flora and fauna of the Columbia Bottomlands. This is not so much a tour as a "walk about" or the Brazoria County term "Mucking Around".  Can't promise an Ivory Bill Woodpecker or a Champion Live Oak, but should see something "interesting".

If you need to leave early, you can.  Just make sure you close the gate behind you so the cows don't get out.  (The ranch manager gets very mad at me if the cows get out)

We will meet at the barn, a quonset-hut shaped building on the east side of County Road 25 (Cow Creek Road).  Here's a map:

On the map, the barn is marked by the blue marker.  It's 4.3 miles south of FM1462 (red marker) and 11.5 miles north of Highway 35 (yellow marker).  Click on a marker for further information.
