Minutes from October 16, 2012
The meeting was called to order at 7 pm by President Mark Kellner. There were ten members in attendance. The minutes of the September meeting were approved and the treasurer’s report was accepted.
Due to the scheduling of the presidential debate, the evening’s program was postponed until January. The November meeting will feature Historian Von-Maszewski speaking about the Old Three Hundred.
Business:
· Texian Market Days at the George Ranch Historical Park: members of archeological society will host the dig on Saturday only.
· The nominating committee was chosen: Brian Knipling, Bolton Doggett and Jerry Hardin. They will be nominating officers for the coming year at the November meeting – voting and installation will take place at the December Christmas party.
· The next Boy Scout Dig will be on Saturday, November 17th – Bob Crosser and Joe Bonham are signed up.
· The Barnett Site – cataloging and interpretation work continue on Thursdays at the Tyree House.
· Fort Vicinity – Shovel testing continues on Saturdays. Contact Bob if you are interested in helping. So far they have found some machine cut nails and some transfer ware.
Announcements:
· Bob Crosser will send out an email about the budget cuts planned for the Texas Historical Commission.
· Melissa Dixon reported that the Gault Site trip planned for the next day had one opening.
The meeting lasted until 7:10 pm.

Houston Archeological Society Meeting:
The Houston Archeological Society will host a presentation by Andrew Freeman, Deputy Executive Director at the SHUMLA Archeological Education and Research Center in West Texas entitled The Lower Pecos as a Teaching Laboratory: Rock Art, Archeology, and New Techniques in Cultural Resources Instruction. The meeting will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in the basement of the Doherty Library, Building 22 / Saint Thomas University.
The Houston Archeological Society, as a member of the Texas Archeological Society can offer classroom teachers valuable credit hours (CPE credits) when they attend almost any HAS function including programs, field activities and workshops. Certificates of attendance will be available at monthly meetings. For more information please email publicoutreach@txhas.org
