Christmas time’s a comin', so that means the 29th Annual FOR San Bernard River Christmas Boat Parade and Home Decorating Contest is too!
The parade starts at dusk (approx 5:45 pm) on Sat Dec 12 at the FM 521 McNeil bridge and travels down river, ending at the FM 2611 Churchill bridge.
Lighted, decorated boats will be judged in three categories: 22' and
under, 23' to 30', and 31' and over. Prizes of engraved wooden cutting
boards will be awarded in each category. There is no entry fee.
If
you’re lucky enough to live on the river, show your Christmas spirit
and decorate your home for the home decorating contest! Light up on Fri Dec 11
for judging and photography. Houses are judged in two categories: 100’
river frontage and under, and 101’ river frontage and over. First,
second and third place prizes of engraved wooden cutting boards will be
awarded in each category, and again – no entry fee is required. Remember to turn your lights on again on parade night, Sat Dec 12.
At noon on Sun Dec 13, boat parade crews and home decorating participants are invited to a complimentary awards party and barbecue at the home of Nelson and Vanessa Taylor, 2909 CR 604, (Sweeny side of the river). Door prizes will be given and parade/decorating winners announced.
Parade instructions and home decorating questions will be answered at a Captain’s meeting at Dido’s Restaurant, Thu Dec 10, 7:00 p.m.
However,
if you simply want to sit back and enjoy the parade with your friends
and family, bring your lawn chairs to one of the following viewing
areas: McNeil boat ramp (FM 521), Dido’s Restaurant, Churchill boat ramp (FM 2611) or the FOR Community Center, located a mile south of the FM 521 bridge on CR 510-B. Open 4:00 pm before the parade. Hot chocolate, coffee and cookies served. FREE!
